iPod Touch 1.1.2 Firmware

Okay, so as you know my iPod is fine now, or so I thought. Restoring it meant that I have updated to 1.1.2 firmware, which means I am going to have to do a lot of messing to jailbreak it. Seen as I have a proven record of bad hacks when I hack manually, do I take the risk and jailbreak? I used jailbreakme.com to jailbreak my old firmware, but the website says it will only work for 1.1.1.

This is a real problem for me because going from a jailbroken, to a normal iPod will be a huge step down. I had my NES and GBA emulators, I had a txt. Editor and all the handy fun things, but now I just have a media player. I am quite unhappy about this, I will probably resort to doing it manually, but I still do not trust myself, things seem to go wrong just when I don’t do anything.

Oh well, please if anybody finds a one click or one touch jailbreak for 1.1.2 I will be very great full.

p.s. I still don’t encourage anybody to jailbreak unless they know hat they are doing, it is just with me where I will be taking a step down.

Blog Direction

I have thought for a while that my most viewed pages were my technology articles, I realized the reason yesterday when I saw that when you search “jailbreak iPod” in Google, my article shows on the first page of results, this made me think.

If my most viewed articles are about technology, I suppose if I wrote more of these articles I may get more views and have a semi-successful blog. But is that what I really want? I started this blog to just talk about whatever I was thinking about, I did not expect to get many views and I was not bothered if I did or not. But now I have had over 200 views and a record of 40 a day I thought I needed to work out a direction of my blog. Either I write about what people are interested in, or I keep writing my random thoughts.

I have posted this article just to tell people that the purpose of this blog is not going to change, regardless of any dip in views I will keep chatting my rubbish and accomplish what I set out to do, to leave a mark on the Internet. So I hope there will at one point be at least one regular visitor to this blog who will maybe listen to what I have to say, no matter how pointless it is (I am looking at you Peter!)

Another iPod Touch Scare

I was just trying to install the iPhone apps to my iPod touch and there was some sort of problem, my iPod would only get to the apple logo, stay there for a bit, then the screen went black, and then it rebooted into the apple logo again. I could not use or restore my iPod and to be honest I was really scared that I had bricked my device and thrown £270 in the bin.

However, I must be the luckiest man alive because after a few attempts to hold the sleep and home buttons in, iTunes finally recognised the iPod as new and I am re syncing it now. I know I have said this before, and I will probably go against it, but I do not think I will be tampering with it again anytime soon.

So, unless you really know what you are doing, or have money to throw away, I seriously do not recommend tampering with your device in any way at all. It is one of the worst feelings ever to have it there in front of you not working, I hope not to have it again.

If anybody is having the same issue as me, the way to fix your iPod is to hold the home and sleep/wake button at the same time for a few seconds, then when the screen goes blank release the sleep/wake button and keep home pressed in. This may not work the first time, but mine worked eventually and saved me £270.

The Mighty Boosh

The Mighty Boosh is a comedy act mainly consisting of Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt. They play the characters Vince Noir and Howard moon. Starting as a live stage show the act was picked up by BBC radio airing on BBC London Live after their fourth live show “Autoboosh”, and later going on to make a TV show aired on BBC3.

I do not know much of the radio and live shows as I am not a hardcore boosh fan, but I am a big fan of the TV series. The first two series were the best programmes I have seen in a while, each episode is great and if you watch them all I am sure that you will want to introduce a friend to the boosh.

The first series of the TV show was set in a zoo where the episode started and finished, for the main part of the show they normally ended up somewhere totally different or stayed in the zoo. In the second series they were just situated in an apartment and the episodes went into the adventure more quickly.

Each series is as good as the other but in different ways, good throughout and worth a look.

The third series is set to air this Thursday on BBC3 at 22:30 and the first episode is available to watch in its entirety on the BBC website already. I watched the episode tonight and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

So yes, I just wrote this article to try to introduce some new people to the boosh because I am truly thankful to Peter for lending me the DVD’s and I hope to make somebody as happy as Peter has made me. So be sure to watch it on Thursday and if you like consider watching some of their earlier work.

iPhone/iPod Touch NES Emulator Instructions

In my last post I mentioned the NES emulator for the iPhone/iPod Touch. I had to do a bit of searching to find out how to do this, but thankfully you have me to tell you now.First of all your device is jailbroken, then make sure you have MobileFinder installed (see my article on how to jailbreak for more information on this0. Once you have this open it, tap the squiggle in the top right corner, double tap Media, tap create, tap folder, and name it “ROMs”. Inside this folder do the same but call the folder “NES”, this is where you will place your roms. Then visit this site http://code.google.com/p/iphonelist/. Download the file and install iPhoneList, this will allow you to explore your iPhone/iPod Touch’s files and folders so you can place the roms. Then you need to find some roms, just search on Google or something, they are not hard to come across. So finally just place your roms into the “ROMs” Folder you created earlier and you are set to go.

How To Jailbreak iPhone/iPod Touch

One of my most viewed article is concerning the time when I messed up my jailbreak, I assume most people thought it was a how to article, then they were disappointed to find it was just me complaining. So I thought that I would tell you how to do it rather than just complaining. I found an extremely simple way to do this:

All you need is your iPhone/iPod Touch and a wifi internet connection. Really all you do is direct your safari to jailbreakme.com, your safari will crash and take you back to the home screen. Wait for a few minutes until the locked screen appears, unlock your device and you should see a new icon amongst your apps called installer. This allows you to install many new apps to your device to be used anywhere.

My first suggestion is to open installed, go to install, sources, community sources, and install that. It will take you to the locked screen, unlock then go back into installer, now there are much much more apps to choose from.

My suggested apps to install are as follows:

  • NES (emulator) – see next post for instructions on how to install games
  • MobileFinder (file browser)
  • MobileToDoList
  • Sketches (sketch pad)
  • BSD Subsystem
  • Dock (nice app selector)
  • SummerBoard (allows customisable themes)
  • Touch Calendar Fix (adds an “add task” button to the calendar)

They are all the things I have installed to make my iPod Touch an all round better device, but of course there are many more fun and useful apps ready for install so feel free to experiment and find a setup that is right for you.

Feeds

I think that feeds are a very good idea, but I cannot find any that will be use to me. All I am subscribed to is Wikinews and Word of the Day. I am constantly on the look for some new interesting ones that will be use to me, but I never have any luck.

Better than rss feeds are podcasts. But again there are few that interest me, I am only subscribed to Jonathan Ross’ and Russell Brand’s radio shows which I thoroughly enjoy. I can’t seem to find a search function in iTunes for podcasts, and I can’t find any decent sites for them.

So yes, if anybody knows of any very god feeds of any type, please let me know because I do really like podcasts and I would enjoy subscribing to more.

Warm Blood

Have you ever had the feeling of your blood being really warm? I just got out of the bath and led down and I have the sensation that my blood is warm, it feels really nice. It has happened to me once before but I thought it was just a one off thing but it must happen when I have a really warm bath but don’t stay in for a very long time.

So yeah, I was just wondering if this had happened to anybody else or if I am just imagining it.

100 Hits

Yesterday I hit the 100 views mark, I would just like to say thankyou to anybody who has visited my site. My blog appeared when I search my name in Google and that is the thing I am most happy about really. I suppose the next milestone is to get 100 views in one day, then I don’t think this blog could become any more successful.

Thankyou again, and please keep visiting.

The Page Could Not Be Displayed

This has to be the most annoying error message in the world. There doesn’t even seem to be any system behind it either, I just go on a site and it tells me I can’t. It happened to me today and it re-kindled a deep hatred that had led dormant for some time.

I noticed that my blog theme kept the widgets at the bottom of the page, which most visitors to this site will most probably never look, so I tried to change the theme “The Page Could Not Be Displayed” WordPress seemed to be down for a few hours so it was annoying me ever since, only now have I been able to change it and write this article.

Oh well, just another of life’s annoyances that nobody can be botherd to get rid of because it is only a small problem, but it is still a problem, and when you add the times it happens together, you get a huge problem. It must be stopped.
