Epson Stylus DX4400

I have been in need of a new printer for some time now, at the moment I have a Lexmark which I hate more than any technology I have in my house (and my Dad still regularly uses cassettes). The Lexmark is very bad as far as ink goes, not only are all the colours in one cartage, but each colour lasts nowhere near enough, then you need to buy a new cartage. I have always been a fan of Epsons, though never owned one peoples I have used I have been very fond of.

So yesterday my Dad said it about time we got a new printer, so I found this on Amazon for £35 and I am eagerly anticipating its arrival. For anybody who is interested in buying one here is the link http://www.amazon.co.uk/Epson-Stylus-DX4400-multifunction-individual/dp/B000RW3BGQ/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=gateway&qid=1201823359&sr=8-1

Top of Google

I used to have a few search terms that I was top at, but I was knocked of all of them. Oh well, I saw a little ray of hope last night when I saw I got “ipod touch nes” back. I screen captured as soon as I saw it because I knew I would be gone soon. Sadly I was knocked off today, but at least I have evidence now.

Jailbreak 1.1.3 for iPhone/iPod Touch Through Installer

Ok then, I have been looking forward to this for a while and here it is. I do not like manual jailbreaks because I do not trust myself not to mess it up and have to restore all over again. I know there have been jailbreaks for this firmware for a while, but I have waited for a one tap solution. This process will upgrade you to 1.1.3 and install the applications you need to pay for normally. If you are on 1.1.3 then go to http://leebialecki.wordpress.com/2008/01/07/how-to-love-your-iphoneipod-touch-more/ and read the downgrade bit.

So here we go, first of all let me stress that this is NOT a quick process, it can take up to an hour and a half, but you only need to do 5 minutes work and the rest is just letting it do its thing. (Also make sure you have full battery or are connected to a power source):

  1. First thing to do is to go to “Settings” “General” and set the auto sleep to never. Then make sure you have a 1.1.2 jailbroken device, if not look at my other post “How to love you’re iPhone/ iPod Touch more” here you will find instructions of how to jailbreak 1.1.1 and 1.1.2.
  2. After that, make sure you have the latest version of Installer, just check if there are any updates in Installer. Also you must have Open SSH”, “BSD Subsystem” and “Services” installed.
  3. Now go Into Installer then into “Sources”. Tap “Edit” in the top right corner of the screen, then “Add” in the top left. The source you need to ass is http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml
  4. Now you have this new source go to “Install” and “1.1.3 jailbreak + iPhone”. Install that package and the install will begin, it will seem to get stuck but it is just taking its time, leave it for about an hour and check on it every so often.

Ok so there you go, you are now leaving your device for around an hour, if you happen to see the apple logo then it is just about done, the apple logo will show for a while but there is still nothing to worry about, you will eventual come to the locked screen and you have a jailbroken 1.1.3 device.

One thing mentioning is that you will lose all you’re 3rd party apps so you should make a note of what you have and just re-install them. There have also been reports of Summerboard and Customise not working properly on 1.1.3, if they do no work for you there is a way to get them to work and I will update you on that later, I have not jailbroken yet so I will give you more info on what works and what does not when I have done.

iOne Scorpius-P20

My keyboard finally came today, and I have to say that it is great. I would be writing this post with it right now, if the space bar worked!

I set it all up, joystick works fine, I can type on it perfectly, but the space bar just does not work. So I am going to have to send it back and get a replacement. But I must admit it is exactly what I was looking for, perfectly small and light, just what I needed. This would be the final thing to add to my set up and I would be happy. So once I get the replacement for this I will probably get a graphics tablet and a Media Centre remote.

So yes, I would recommend this to anybody who is looking for a small keyboard and the joystick mouse works a lot better than I expected to, but I will still keep my wireless mouse at hand for anything that needs much mouse use.

Advent Calendars

Evil Advent Calendars! Why does the chocolate have to be so bad? One piece a day, it seems okay, but I just ate a whole one today and it was a HORRIBLE experience. My brother didn’t eat his this year, so I thought I would eat it, but I was wondering if I should eat it in order or not. I asked Peter a few days ago whether he would or not, and he would, and I would or it would just feel strange. Peter also seems mad at me for eating it because it’s an advent calendar, not just chocolate, I don’t know if that is a relevant point or not.

So yes, I ate it all and it was really horrible. Not just unpleasant but just plain horrible. I do not recommend it to anybody ever, just thought I would mention it to you though, in case it crosses your mind.

Earphones

Why can’t I find the right earphones? At the moment, sadly, I am using my stock Apple earphones I got with my iPod touch which are ok sound and quick to use, but I also have some Shure E2c which have the best sound but are a bitch to insert properly. I want to find a mid grown but I am having some trouble, I have around £150 to spend, I have bought my keyboard for £30, I would like a graphics tablet, some new earphones and maybe a Windows Media Centre remote.

So what I am looking for, is some £30ish earphones, with great sound, but easy to use. Another factor to be taken into account is whether I can hear people or not, when I’m at school I would like to hear people, but sometimes I wouldn’t. Some of the high end Shures have microphones in them so you can press a button and hear people through your earphone, but I am not looking for another pair of Shures. I am struggling, I am not in any rush to get some, but I would certainly like some. Any suggestions from anybody would be appreciated.

One thing that really annoys me, is when people say headphones when they mean earphones, there is little I hate more than having to search for headphones because websites are so ignorant, it really aggravates me. Oh well.

Windows Live Writer

I found this software a while back, never used it because I use Word 2007, but always thought it looked good. So Ross wants to start a blog, so I thought I would direct him to this, he is having issues so i am just writing this post to test it out for myself. It even seems to have more features than Word, but i doubt i will change any time soon.

Good insert options like picture, table, map, hyperlink and videos. Actualy looks prety good, i would recommend it, if this post works.

The Shirt of Two Pandas

Peter bought me this lovely t-shirt for Christmas, I like it very much. But the other day, I noticed something weird about it. There are actually two pandas on the shirt, very strange indeed.

To the left is the normal picture on the shirt, looks like a very happy panda. But bellow is the picture form a different angle, which looks more like a cartoon, distressed panda who looks worried.

If you consider his nose as an eye and the line near his ear his mouth, and his ear a wait long neck, it is definitely another panda! I wonder if they meant it to do that, or am I just weird? I don’t know, but I think it is one amazing shirt. Thankyou Peter J

Remembering Dreams

I’m sure most people reading this will have noticed that it is hard to remember a dream unless you make notes on it. Well I experienced this to the extreme today, quite a while ago I went on holiday to Cyprus because my grandparent have lived over there for about 5 years now. Well, getting back from the country, I saw the nicest sunrise out of the airplane windows, like a horizontal rainbow. Got home around 07:00 I think, went to bed, and woke up with the worst ear ache.

I turned out I had quite a violent ear infection, which well and truly floored me. I was not 100% after that for the best half of two months. But in the first night I had the ache, I was in the strangest mixture of awake and sleep, and I had the weirdest dream. The strange thing about it though, was that only one bit of the dream has stuck in my mind, and the rest of it had gone away.

But today, looking for a pen, I came across a dream description, which I cannot even remember writing never mind dreaming. So I read through them and realised that it was the ear infection dream, and it really confused me because I had no idea that I made these notes. After discussing it with Peter I remembered more and more about taking the notes through that night because the dream interested me so much. So yes here are the notes exactly as I wrote them:

“Had a dream. The three were back in school and they had made some sort of iced rock cakes. I ate a bit of one. Then someone on and electric scooter drove off road into schoolyard, I threw an empty plastic bottle near him. Aston had a go at me then put me in detention with bridgeman.

I was at some sort of school trip, climbing up a big hill, I kept telling the person in front to turn back, but he didn’t until we reached the top, there seemed to be a lot of left shoes and bags but no one was around except me and him. When we got back I went into the shot and bought a lot of stuff but the counter guy didn’t charge me because he gave me a dodgy bag. The shop sold ‘Space Invaders’ cards/stickers and Annabel told me to make sure they were real. I then wanted to put my stuff in my bag but I couldn’t find it.

I was an old woman and England has been split up and was now just floating islands. Russia wanted to share our water space and I kept saying no.”

  • The three- Hannah, Vicky and Louise
  • Aston- Ex-deputy head teacher at my school (retired about a month ago)
  • Bridgeman- RE teacher at my school
  • Annabel- Friend who goes to my school.

So yes, probably the weirdest dream I have had in my life, probably because it was less of a dream and more of my mind thinking what it wanted while I couldn’t sleep. It was like when you get a song stuck in your head, and you tell yourself to stop singing it but your head won’t let you. So my head was thinking all this stuff about Russia, and I couldn’t stop, so it was like a dream really.

Well I just found these notes so I thought you might find them interesting.

Farmer Monkeys or Attack Monkeys

Well, my first ever article was about whether farmer monkeys or attack monkeys are better. I remembered the argument in my head yesterday and thought I would go further into detail with it. First of all, farmer monkeys are far better than attack monkeys.

Monkeys are well known to be able to wield tools, but how far could we take this? Already there have been attack monkeys able to hold daggers and attack each other, and recently I have seen some monkey-picked tea. So both sorts of monkey exist, but why are farmers better?

What makes the farmer monkey is better is that they can farm food to feed themselves and other monkeys, and the only payment they would want would be bananas, which they grow themselves! All attack monkeys can do is attack, and not clever attack either, just “Kill! Kill! Kill!!!”. But the best thing about farmer monkeys has yet to come.

Before the Great Wall of China, much of the Chinese army disappeared, so along with the wall they had to build a new army to protect themselves. Most of the gathered people were farmers, so a great general created a new style of combat, using common farming methods and turning them into attacks. So, if you replace the Chinese people mentioned with monkeys, you have an army of Farmer/Attack Monkeys!

So, monkeys have a lot of potential in my head, not that any of it will be fulfilled, but I like to think of the monkey future. You could have a whole society of Monkeys, the farmers farming the bananas, the currency would be bananas, the farmers would take a cut of the bananas, and the rest would go to paying the worker monkeys. The worker monkeys would do all the jobs serving the civilian monkeys, the attack monkeys could be the monkey army. I think with enough work all of this could be done, I don’t see much point in it, but as I said before, it would be a bright future.

Humans would have to control the monkeys though, they could not get any more powerful or they could take over, they could reduce us to the worker monkeys while they sat in their ivory towers, so it is not a good idea at all really, but I think it would be a good idea to make a prequel to “Planet of the Apes” to see all this done.
