Well, not like I didn’t see this coming some time soon (I was really suspecting it at macworld) but yes, they have doubled the memory in the iPhone and iPod Touch. They were seriously in need of a 32gb flash player because creative had theirs and now the iPhone would be useable for me. The thing that has annoyed me the most about it though is that if they had 16gb iphones from the start I would have bought one, but 8gb was way too small for me so I settled for the iPod Touch.
So will I be selling my iPod and buying a 32gb? No, surprisingly not. This is the first time I have not upgraded since I got my first iPod. I started out with a 4gb 1st gen nano, then a 8gb 2nd gen because I had half filled my 1st gen. Then the iPod Touch came out, I was in need of a memory upgrade, and it is such a great device I needed to have it.I still stand by my belief that the iPod touch is far better than any portable media player on the marked, and my argument has been further supported with this increase of memory. Its only drawback is its price tag (£320) but if you are looking for the best, it just has to be the iPod touch.
Another thing that annoys me is that I have always had the top memory of the current generation, this semi-separated me from the ’sheep’ with their midrange iPods, but I do not need to upgrade so I will be in the midrange. I don’t mind much, but it is a first for me. And for those who think that people with iPods are sheep, I don’t believe that at all. I love quality in an electronic device, and I have stuck with iPod all the way. Apple are leaders in design, and they did not have the best selling portable media player on the market on accident, they got there by being the best.
The first people who bought them bought them because they were great, then others bought them because they were great, then everybody knew that they were great , and eventually anybody who just wanted a portable media player bought an iPod because they have received positive feedback from all their friends. Apple always continues to better themselves, every year or so they will bring out a new line with more memory, thinner and better looking. Other competitors like creative do have good players (well not hardive any more because creative don’t make them anymore), but I have always thought they looked cheep and there was no real quality factor. The new “Creative Zen” (horrible for search terms) s a good player, way better resolution than the horrid creative zen v plus, but apple still beats it with their nano with style and usability, I have heard that the buttons are unpleasant, and I just don’t like plastics much anymore. All of the iPods now are nearly all aluminium and glass, they are just nice.
So yes, don’t be listening to me much about how I don’t like the other players, because I have not used any over a long period of time, but I do know that I love all iPods for their usability and style. And back to the original, non rambling point of this post, get buying your 16gb iPhones and 32gb iPod Touches.
