Well this is one of the best and most successful internet games I have come across in my lifetime, and let me just say that I was there at the beginning at http://fsk.deviantart.com/art/Line-Rider-beta-40255643 back in the day. I have enjoyed seeing the game develop until what it is today. I remember when I first found this game and how hard it was but how great it was to make a half decent track, but of course now it is easy, but still as fun as it has ever been. Now the recent version is found at www.linerider.com with all its new fangled features and stuff.
I just thought I would write this post to tell you how to download it as its .swf file so you can have it on your computer without internet access needed after the initial download. All you need is Firefox web browser and Flash Player, most of you will have Flash Player but if you don’t have Firefox (what is wrong with you?) then just go to http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/firefox/ and install it. So now, using Firefox, go to http://linerider.com/play-line-rider-online. Now in the “File¦Edit¦Veiw…” bar in Firefox click “Tools” then “Page Info” Now in the window that just opened click “Media” and find the file called “engin2.162.swf” select that file and click “Save as..” save it wherever you want and there you have it. So now you can play Linerider offline, this is a better way to play because you can resize the windows so you are not confined to the tiny space the website gives you, also if you have a laptop and you do not have internet nearby then you can still play.
So now I will give you a few tips so you can make some nice courses. First of all never use the pencil tool, ever. Only use the line tool either to draw large lines or a series of smaller ones with changing gradient to form a curve far better than anything than pencil tool ever could (even with a graphics tablet) so forget that the pencil tool exists and you will not go far well. The blue line is just normal, red is accelerator and green is just for scenery. While you are playing your track is you click the flag the next time you press play you will start from the part of the track, this helps with making slight adjustments to make the track move more smoothly. That is about all you need to know to get started on making some really nice tracks, if you want a more detailed explanation of all the lines and tools then press the H key on your keyboard and hover over anything you want to know about with your curser.
So that is it, if you want any inspiration on good tracks than just search “Linerider” in YouTube and look at the pieces of art they have up there, I find tracks made in the original version more impressive because there was no line tool (there was a cheat where you right clicked where the line should start and left clicked when it should end and that created a line) but there are things far better made with the current version, you just need to have a look.
