Well, anybody remember my rant about how birds have become more stupid? I set up a little experiment here to see how clever birds really are these days to see if my points were valid. I placed a hanging basket over the food tray to see what different birds made of it. Watching the different birds I was quite surprised at what I found.
Starlings can just about squeeze in, one one had squeezed in he would stay there looking as if he could not get back out. So a starling will munch away happily for a while dropping food on the floor for the bigger birds. As for the bigger birds such as crows, they like to perch on the basket and peck away at the food (very clumsily) At one point there were about 3 crows on the basket and they flew away at once, the basket fell off and they all had a good time. So now I have to think up new ways to keep the big birds from the food, I’m sure I will have many minutes of laughter watching crows getting confused.
